Sree Padmanabha  Swamy Temple is one of the sacred pilgrim center as well as one of the most visited tourist spot in Trivandrum. This temple is the weathiest Hindu temple in the World and is  located at a place called East Fort in Thiruvananthapuram.

At Sree Padmanabha Temple, you will get the divine darshan of lord Vishnu Avtaar in Ananthasayana. You are about to get the darshan from  3 doors. As its tradition of no lights in temple, moreover the idol is complete black color.

Its being quiet a long time we are thinking to publish a post about dress code inside the temple. Being one of the most visited sacred abode in Trivandrum, lots of readers and our guests used to ask about the allowed dress for gents and ladies inside Pathmanabha Swamy Temple. Visitors who are from and outside from Kerala may not be aware of the rules on dress code inside the temple. So here we are providing some relevant information on the same

Dress code to be followed at the Padmanabha Swamy Temple 
Only Hindus are permitted inside the temple.

The dress code for men is Mund / Dhoti with or without Angavastra. Men need to wear mundu or dhoti (worn around the waist and going down up to the heels) and should not wear shirts of any kind.

The dress codes for women are Sarees, Dhoties or Pavadas with blouse or other coverings as appropriate to their age. Women need to wear Sari, Mundum Neriyathum (set-mundu), Skirt and Blouse, or Half Sari.
                                  Salvar sets and other modern dresses are not allowed. Young girls below 12 years may wear gowns. No other types of dress should not be worn or taken inside the temple.

Exceptional Cases :- Nowadays temple authorities allow wearing of dhotis / White Mund over pants or churidhar to avoid inconvenience to the devotees.

For Ladies : Saree is suggestale.
                    Churidar with a white mund / shall or thorth above it. Women also have to wear dhothi / mund over their dresses except in sarees.
                    Children also the same as above

On your entrance towards temple, security guards / police will give you instruction about the dress code, What you cannot take inside the temple etc. This will help the devotee to make prepare properly for entering inside the temple and save their valuable time.

After this initial briefing session, you have to pass through  metal detector. Again there will be security checking from temple staff with metal detector machines. This will be separate for gents and ladies. After security check you are free to have darshan.

For Ladies
You don't need to worry about dress code. Only thing, what ever dress you wear, you have to put a white Kerala Mund over dress covering legs. Wear the Mund in a way so that you can cover your legs with it

If you are in Midi and Top with a shall , you can enter inside without any other restrictions

For Gents
Mund is compulsory and you cannot wear shirt and cannot hold the same in your hand. So keep your shirt inside your vehicle or cloak room which is available just near to the temple entrance

For Small Kids : Boys
If they are in pant or trouser, parents please carry a small Mund or white Towel and wear it covering the leg part

For Small Kids : Girls
If they are in pant or trouser, parents please carry a small Mund or white Towel and wear it covering the leg part. If your child is in Frock kind of dress, she can enter in same dress

Charges for Dhotis and Mund
Extra Dhotis are available for rent at the temple entrance.. Lungis / Mund/ Dhotis are available at very low cost, from Rs.45/- to Rs.75/- for each.

Cameras, mobile phone, shirt etc has to be kept in cloak room or if you have vehicle you can keep inside

Special Darshan ticket at Rs180/family is same available cheaper inside temple.
You can take special darshan ticket (Rs.20/person) for closest darshan,

Remarks :- The above-indicated time schedule is subject to changes during festivals and other special occasions. During the festival occasions the darshan time is reduced in order to performing the special poojas

    You have to buy a mund/doty from temple premises and have to war it on salvar/kurta

    For gents no pant or shirt allowed. Strictly Mund/ Doti only need to war
