The frontline staff of Eravikulam National Park has observed newly born Tahr calves in the tourism zone and many of the female Tahrs in pregnancy. The visitation rate in the tourism zone is extremely high and is highly detrimental to the calving of Nilgiri Tahrs. The newly born Tahr calves are highly vulnerable to disturbances.

Considering these circumstances, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) & Chief Wildlife Warden, Kerala ordered to close the Eravikulam National Park for visitors from 01st February to 01st April 2017 due to the breeding season." - Wildlife Warden, Munnar.
