Eravikulam National Park Munnar is Closed for Visitors from 29th January to 01st April 2018 

The frontline staff of Eravikulam National Park has observed newly born Tahr calves in the tourism zone and many of the female Tahrs in pregnancy. The visitation rate in the tourism zone is extremely high and is highly detrimental to the calving of Nilgiri Tahrs. The newly born Tahr calves are highly vulnerable to disturbances. 

Considering these circumstances, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) & Chief Wildlife Warden, Kerala ordered to close the Eravikulam National Park for visitors from 29th January to 01st April 2018 due to the breeding season." - Wildlife Warden, Munnar.

Why Rajamalai / Eravikulam National Park Remain Closed Every Year ?
This is the question we receive from our readers frequently. 
It is because the breeding season of Nilgiri Tahrs which falls every year during February & March. So during this time visitors are restricted and park will be closed. And will reopen in April after the completion of breeding period.

Eravikulam National Park is 97 sq. km. in extent, situated along the crest of the Western Ghats in the High Ranges of Idukki district of Kerala state, India.

The Park holds the largest viable population of the endangered (IUCN) Nilgiri Tahr (Hemitragus hylocrius). This place is also known as Rajamalai

Apart from tahr, the Park is the abode of other little known fauna such as Nilgiri marten, ruddy mongoose,small clawed otter,dusky striped squirrel etc
